🎬 Video Compressor — Free Browser-Based MP4, No Upload

Reduce your video file size instantly and for free — your video is processed entirely in your browser using ffmpeg.wasm and is never uploaded to any server. Choose from 3 quality levels and download a compressed MP4 in seconds. Looking for a free Clideo alternative? Toolio’s version is completely free and needs no sign-up.

Video compression re-encodes a video to shrink its file size, making it easier to send, upload or store while keeping it watchable.

Private by design. This tool runs entirely in your browser — nothing you enter is uploaded, and it works offline.

About

This video compressor runs ffmpeg.wasm — a full port of FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly — directly inside your browser tab. Your video file never leaves your device: there is no upload, no cloud processing, and no server that ever sees your footage. The output is a standard H.264 MP4, widely supported across all devices and platforms. Three quality presets (High quality, Balanced and Small file) let you balance file size against visual quality. Because compression happens on your CPU inside the browser, large or long videos will take more time than a native app; for best results use it on short clips or clips under ~200 MB. The tool works fully offline once the page is loaded.

Measured result: on 1 September 2026 we ran the live tool over seven publisher-encoded test clips (Blender's Big Buck Bunny and Sintel trailers at 480p, 720p and 1080p, plus a live-action Jellyfish clip), 5 to 7 seconds each. At the default Balanced setting (CRF 28) the files shrank by 64.3% at the median, from 15.2% to 85.2%, with a median SSIM of 0.968. The Small file setting (CRF 32) shrank them by 78.5% at the median. High quality (CRF 23) shrank them by 24.7% at the median but made one already efficient clip 47.4% larger, so re-encoding a well-compressed video at high quality can increase its size.

Limits: output is always H.264 video with 128 kbps AAC audio in an MP4 file, at the original resolution (an odd width or height is trimmed by one pixel to make it even). There is no control over resolution, frame rate or bitrate, and encoding runs on your CPU inside the page, so it is much slower than a desktop encoder.

How to use

  1. Click "Choose Video" and select the video file you want to compress from your device.
  2. Choose a quality level — High (best quality, larger file), Medium (balanced), or Low (smallest file).
  3. Click "Compress" and wait while ffmpeg.wasm processes the video entirely in your browser.
  4. Preview the compressed video and compare the new file size shown on screen.
  5. Click "Download" to save the compressed MP4 to your device.

FAQ

Is this video compressor free to use?
Yes, completely free — no account, no subscription, no watermark, no hidden fees. Just open the page and compress.
Is my video uploaded to a server? Is it private?
Your video is never uploaded. All compression runs in your browser using ffmpeg.wasm — the video stays on your device at all times and is never sent to any server.
Is there a file size limit? Why is compression slow for large videos?
There is no hard upload limit since nothing is uploaded. However, because ffmpeg.wasm runs on your device's CPU inside the browser, large files (over ~200 MB) or long videos can take several minutes. For best speed, use it on short clips.
What is the output format?
The output is always an MP4 file encoded with H.264 video, compatible with virtually all devices, browsers, and video players.
Does the video compressor work on mobile?
Yes, it runs on modern mobile browsers. Keep in mind that mobile CPUs are slower than desktops, so compression will take longer — especially for larger files. Short clips work best on mobile.
