🎯 Final Grade Calculator
Wondering what you need to score on the final to pass or hit an A? Enter your current grade, how much the final is worth, and your target overall grade — Toolio tells you the exact score required, plus the maximum and minimum grade you can still finish with. It runs entirely in your browser: free, instant, and private.
Your current grade counts for the rest of the course; the final counts for its weight. Required final = (desired − current × (1 − weight)) ÷ weight. If the number is above 100 the target isn't reachable; if it's at or below 0 you've already secured it.
Private by design. This tool runs entirely in your browser — nothing you enter is uploaded or stored, and it works offline.
About
The tool uses the standard weighted-grade formula: required final = (target − current × (1 − weight)) ÷ weight, where weight is the final exam's share of the course. It interprets the result for you — telling you if you've already secured the target (a 0 would still pass), if the target is mathematically impossible even with a perfect score, or exactly what percentage you need. It also shows the best and worst overall grade you can still earn given your current standing.
How to use
- Enter your current grade as a percentage (e.g. 82).
- Enter how much the final exam is worth, as a percentage of the course (e.g. 30).
- Enter the overall grade you want. The required final score appears instantly.
FAQ
- What if the required score is over 100%?
- That means the target isn't reachable with this final alone. The tool shows the maximum grade you can still achieve.
- What if it says I need 0%?
- You've already secured your target — even a zero on the final keeps you at or above it.
- Does this work for weighted categories or just the final?
- It models your current grade as everything-but-the-final. Combine categories into one 'current grade' first, then set the final's weight.
- What do the three fields actually mean?
- Current grade is your standing before the final. Weight is how much the final is worth as a percentage of the whole course - a syllabus figure, not a guess. Desired grade is the final course grade you want. The tool then solves for the one unknown: the score you need on the final itself.
- Why is a small change in weight moving the answer so much?
- Because the weight is the divisor. When the final is worth only 10% of the course, every point you want to move your overall grade needs ten points on the exam, so the required score swings wildly. A heavily weighted final is more forgiving in that respect, which is why checking the syllabus figure matters more than the other two inputs.
- Does this tool upload my data?
- No. Everything runs right in your browser, so your data never leaves your device — it even works offline once the page has loaded.
