What is the tint palette feature?

The tint palette shows five swatches: your exact color plus two darker and two lighter shades of the same hue and saturation, always ordered from dark to light with no duplicates. A near-black color shows four lighter steps after it, and a near-white color shows four darker steps before it. Clicking a swatch updates all inputs to that shade so you can copy its codes too.

Does it show the nearest Pantone color?

Yes. Alongside HEX, RGB, and HSL, the converter shows the closest PANTONE Solid Coated match (for example, PANTONE 185 C) with a one-click copy button. The match is found with the perceptual CIEDE2000 color-difference formula. Because Pantone spot inks are defined physically rather than by a screen value, the sRGB match is an approximate reference, not an exact ink.

Does it give CMYK values?

Yes, but treat them as a screen approximation rather than a press-ready separation. The converter uses the standard uncalibrated RGB-to-CMYK formula, which has no ICC profile behind it — real separation values depend on your output profile (US Web Coated SWOP, FOGRA39, Japan Color). The Pantone CMYK row is derived from the matched ink's approximate sRGB, not from Pantone's licensed Color Bridge data, and many spot colors fall outside the CMYK gamut entirely. Always confirm with your printer before sending artwork.

What happens if I type an invalid HEX code?

The HEX field gets a red outline and a short message, and the previous color stays. A 3-digit code such as #f53 is applied when you press Enter or leave the field, and an 8-digit code with transparency (#RRGGBBAA) uses its first 6 digits and ignores the alpha part.

Is there a color chart?

Yes. Below the results there is a color chart of 12 hues at 7 lightness levels plus a row of greys. Each cell is labeled with its HEX code, and clicking it loads that color into the converter. The chart contains HEX codes only, not color names.
